Robert Knox (politician) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Robert Knox (politician) Robert Knox was a British councillor and the Mayor of Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1966. That year, Knox reportedly signed a peace treaty with the Soviet Union on behalf of the town, since a state of conflict supposedly existed between the two since the Crimean War of the 1850s (before 1922, when the Soviet Union came into being, the state of conflict was believed to exist between Berwick and the Soviet Union's predecessor, the Russian Empire).〔 〕 However, Jim Herbert of the Berwick Borough Museum said in 2006 that contemporary newspaper reports did not confirm that a treaty had been signed, nor could Knox's remark to the Soviet official who was said to have attended the signing, "Tell the Russians they can sleep easy in their beds", be verified.〔 == References ==
